Without a doubt, it is hard work and there is no way you can satisfy everyone. In fact, I've found that there are some people that can never be satisfied so it takes lots of wisdom to manage those people so that they do not distract you from your race despite all their attempts to discredit you. This reminds me of something that happened to my husband and I a few years ago. We heard that another pastor had tried to discredit one of us - and someone who was there came to the defence. When my husband and I discussed it, we couldn't help but wonder what that other pastor was hoping to gain. Maybe the thought was that by putting us/others down, he/she would elevate themselves. My husband and I discussed this a bit then discarded the matter because it did not matter to us...and there are more important things to focus on. But this was another "Really?!" moment for me.
As pastors, we cannot force or expect that more people will respect us because we are pastors - whether or not we respect them. I'm not saying that it is right to disrespect any pastor. No it is wrong to do that & it is even "wronger" to disrespect others because you are a pastor.
As pastors, we should always display respectful behaviour which others can emulate. Therefore, please don't ever put others down in order to elevate yourself. We must realize and remember that it's easier to accept the message and the messenger when you are respected.
Being a pastor is a privilege that carries the responsibility of being respectful to others at all times. On that note, I'd like to end with this quote attributed to Albert Einstein:
