Leading Ladies

When you hear the words or phrase "Leading ladies" what comes to your mind? 2 things come to mind for me:

  1. There is a general expectation - rightly or wrongly - that Mrs. Pastor will be or is responsible for leading the ladies (especially as the Head of Women's Ministry/Fellowship). I'm not sure why there is that general expectation especially as the Pastor is not usually the Head of the Men's Ministry/Fellowship - maybe someone can explain why to me - I like learning...and of course sharing what I learn.
  2. The 2nd thing that comes to mind that Mrs Pastor must be a Leading lady - and for that she has no choice - because "as pastors’ wives we are in a prime position to influence others by our conduct… good or bad."*
Each of these have their own pitfalls that we must be aware of - and AVOID.

I say this very carefully - so please take heed how and what you "hear":
I've come to learn that not every Mrs. Pastor is called to women. Take a deep breath as you continue to read... Now, this is not to say that she is a hermit and/or doesn't like or relate with women or that she is not called to head the Women's Ministry/Fellowship. It's just that, that may not be her calling - at least not at that time or it is her calling but she hasn't developed the (heart and) capacity for that ministry. She may be an active member of the group - just not the leader. I know because I used to be like that...years ago.

The second thing is the fact that Mrs. Pastor has to be a role model and a "Leading lady" does not give you licence to create a clique of "ladies like you." The worst thing any Mrs. Pastor can do is be the "ring leader of a clique" because cliques sow discord - one of the things the Lord hates (Prov 6:19b).

The bottom line is as Mrs. Pastor, with or without the title, you must be leading - by example. These quotes help put this in perspective:

The real leader has no need to lead - he is content to point the way.
~ Henry Miller, The Wisdom or the Heart

Leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders. ~ Tom Peters

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. ~ Quincy Adams

This picture I found nicely encapsulates what I've learned over the years:
 "Let love lead..."

When love leads, it will lead you all to be LOVE (Ladies Of Virtue & Excellence)

Bottom line:
Whatever you do,
endeavour to remain a leading lady...and lead ladies...
by example.
P.S. This piece is being published today on purpose and for a purpose...to celebrate a Leading lady I'm blessed to know. God bless you & give you peace.
