God-service...

...or Eye-service?

A few weeks ago my husband and I were talking about how some Pastors, Mrs Pastors, Ministers and Workers' attendance to some events vary depending on who (else) will be there.

I personally cannot understand - actually refuse to understand - why some of us make it a point to attend some programmes (early or at all) because a notable "Man or Woman of God" will be there. I mean why should that person be the reason why you attend? I'm not saying that we should not attend special programmes but why don't we attend programmes because we know that the "God of Man" will be there? When we attend and are of service to be seen by the "Man or Woman of God", that's simply Eye-Service not God-Service as Apostle talks about in Ephesians 6: 5-6:
Servants (slaves), be obedient to those who are your physical masters, having respect for them and eager concern to please them, in singleness of motive and with all your heart, as [service] to Christ [Himself] - Not in the way of eye-service [as if they were watching you] and only to please men, but as servants (slaves) of Christ, doing the will of God heartily and with your whole soul;*
No matter what recognition that "Man or Woman of God" gives you for attending a meeting where they are it's nothing compared to the reward you will get from God for doing His will - not for Eye-service.
Think about it, is it better to attend a meeting where a "Man or Woman of God" is and God isn't or to attend a meeting where a "Man or Woman of God" isn't and God is? My preference is the latter - I hope yours too.

Let me wrap this up by sharing Paul's advice:
23 Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve.**

Bottom-line: If we are living to please God, HIS approval is ENOUGH. - @SheilaWalsh***
