Father's Day...everyday

I can't really explain why I needed to wait till the week before Father's Day to share this. Maybe we can figure out why together...

"Why?" is a question that adults and children alike ask a lot.

Putting it into context, I'm sure when our husbands were "called" into ministry, some of them may have asked God "Why?" I can even safely guess that when our husbands, or maybe fiancés, told us about the Call on their lives, we may have also asked "Why?"

With every turn in life, there are "Whys" to be considered and responded to. When you think of them as a "Y" shaped road, the reason is clear - we always have at least 2 options when advancing in life.

1 Timothy 3:5 clealy states the reason why the state of my family is critical to the ministry. I like this rendition of the verse:
"If a man does not know how to lead his own family,
he will not be able to take care of God’s church." (Easy-to-Read, emphasis mine)

In other words, the Pastor's ability to be a good pastor is directly correlated with whether he's a great husband and father. Too many Pastors spend more time with the members of the church in the name of ministry - it should be the reverse. Why? Well, read 1 Timothy 3:5 again. If a man (aka "Pastor" in this instance) doesn't spend time with his wife and children, how will he be "equipped" to take care of God's people? Really, how can he be equipped?

My prayer is that pastors will be more 24-7 or at least 18-hour/on-call husbands and fathers... Whether you believe it or not, your family needs you more. Happy Father's Day (on Sunday)
